“Virtual Orientation on Proposal and Dissertation Writing for MBS Students” Concluded Today

TU-PNC, 13 Aug. 2020 – A five-day virtual orientation on “Proposal and Dissertation Writing for MBS Students” concluded today. The virtual orientation was organized by the Department of Management Research under the Faculty of Management on 9-13 August 2020.

The inaugural session of the virtual orientation was chaired by the Dept Head Dr. Hari Prasad Pathak and attended by the Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Saroj Koirala as Chief Guest and the Research Dept Head Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar Jha of Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan as Special Guest.

In opening the inaugural session, Chief Guest Prof. Koirala expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the members at the Faculty of Management. The welcome speech was delivered by the Assistant Campus Chief Dr. Bir Bahadur Karki.

The virtual orientation was facilitated by senior members of the Faculty of Management: Prof. Dr. Keshar J. Baral, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hari P. Pathak, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bir Bahadur Karki, Lecturer Devilal Sharma, Lecturer Jas Bahadur Gurung, Lecturer Nabin B. Adhikari, Lecturer Bhupal Jaisi, Lecturer Hikmat K.C., Lecturer Resham Raj Sharma, Lecturer Bishnu Prasad Bhandari, and Lecturer Resam Lal Poudel as resource persons. Similarly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surya Bahadur G.C. from the School of Business, Pokhara University was also invited to the virtual orientation as a guest resource person.

The first session was started with Prof. Baral’s opening speech, sharing his experiences and highlighting on the objectives of the MBS course. It was followed by other sessions for five days that covered topics related to proposal and dissertation writing. The topics included preliminary review of literature and selection of topics; format and components of dissertation proposal; background of the study; research problems and research questions; objectives, hypothesis, and rational of the study; review of literature; theoretical framework; research methodology; format and components of dissertation report; data analysis and presentation; results, discussion, summary, conclusion and implications; coherence in research; citation and reference (APA 6th Edition); using software for citation and references; do’s and don’ts of research; and information dissemination, deadlines for submissions, and proposal and dissertation defense.

The virtual orientation concluded with a virtual closing ceremony on 13 August 2020.

Speaking at the ceremony as Chief Guest, Campus Chief Prof. Koirala promised to provide supports for the departments to organize academic programs that benefits both faculty and students of the institution. 

The virtual closing ceremony was also attended by Assistant Campus Chiefs of other institute/faculties as Special Guests. They included Assoc. Prof. Hom Nath Poudel, Assoc. Prof. Upendra Paudel, Lecturer Min Raj Lamsal, and Lecturer Chandra Mani Acharya. 

At the same ceremony, the students of MBS Program Krishna Thapa, Milan Sapkota, and Pushpanjali Thapa also spoke on behalf of the student participants who shared their experiences of the virtual orientation on proposal and dissertation writing.

The results of the participants’ feedback was also declared at the same ceremony that showed 15% participants highly satisfied, 70% satisfied, 10% neutral, 3% dissatisfied and 2% highly dissatisfied with the virtual orientation on proposal and dissertation writing. The survey was conducted through the questionnaire generated by using the Google software.   

At the closing ceremony, the Digital Letters of Participation were also distributed to distinguished guests and student participants online.

Throughout the five-day orientation, technical support for the preparation of the orientation was provided by Lecturer Resam Lal Poudel of the Faculty of Management.  

A concluding remark was delivered by the Asst. Campus Chief Dr. Karki who expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the organizing department and the program was formally ended by the Dept Head Dr. Pathak with his vote of thanks for all distinguished guests and student participants.

The five-day virtual orientation was moderated by Lecturers Jas Bahadur Gurung and Resam Lal Poudel.
