International Conference on “Good Governance and Social Transformation in Nepal” to be held in Pokhara

The department of Sociology and Rural Development, Prithvi Narayan Campus is going to organize an International Conference on the theme of “Good Governance and Social Transformation in Nepal” on September 1-3, 2023. The conference will be organized in collaboration with Nepal Sociological Association. More than 50 papers of sociology and related social sciences will be presented in the conference. The conference will be attended by various social science scholars from different universities of Nepal and abroad. Scholars from India, Japan, Norway, UK and USA are presenting papers on the conference. Participants from at least 10 different universities around the world will attend the conference. Prof. Dr. Manish Kumar Verma, Prof. Dr. Kailash Nath Pyakuryal and Prof. Dr. David N. Gellner are presenting their papers as the key note speakers. Prof. Verma is the secretary of Indian Sociological Society and Professor at the department of Sociology, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, India. Similarly, Prof. Pyakuryal is the prominent sociologist of Nepal. Previously, he has served as the member of National Planning Commission and founding Vice-Chancellor of Agriculture and Forestry University. And Prof. Gellner is Professor of Social Anthropology at University of Oxford, UK. He has done intensive study on the various issues of Nepal including Buddhism, Hinduism, cities, ritual, politics, ethnicity, activism, borderlands, class formation and cultural change.

The conference will run for three days and the venue set for the conference is Directorate of Agricultural Research, Gandaki Province, Lumle. There will be around sixteen parallel sessions for paper presentation and discussion on various thematic issues. The conference will be conducted in hybrid mode, both physical and virtual. Some foreign scholars will be presenting their papers virtually.
