Project Work Report Presentations Organized at the Dept of Chemistry

TU-PNC, 17 Sept 2016 – The Department of Chemistry at the Institute of Science & Technology, PNC organized a report presentation program today for B.Sc. 4th year students as part of their project work requirement in Chemistry course that carries 100 marks.

The project work report presentation was chaired by the Head of the Dept of Chemistry, Prithvi Narayan Campus and was coordinated by Prof. Dr. AD Mishra. Present at the program was Assistant Campus Chief Nanda Lal Adhikari.

Responding to a query asked by our reporter, the Assistant Campus Chief Nandalal Adhikari told that the project works can help students develop a host of skills that are increasingly significant in the professional as well as academic world. Similarly, the Dept Head Huta Raj Sharma opined that the project work can develop the students’ ability to work with their peers, building teamwork and group skills.

This is the first batch of the 4-Year B.Sc. students who completed their project work. Regarding this, the Project Work Coordinator Prof. Dr. AD Mishra said, “One of the major benefits of Project work is that it makes the learning place like ours more like real life. In addition, this will pave the way for the next generation of students, making them easier to learn and complete the assigned projects.”

There were 5 separate groups who gave presentations on their project work reports. The reports were prepared in groups and were presented in groups as well, using multimedia projector. Their presentations were followed by questions from the audience and the evaluation committee members. Each group had been given 30 minutes’ time for presentations and for question hour.

The evaluation committee was comprised of the following faculty: Dr. Surya Kanta Kalauni from the Central Department of Chemistry, Kirtipur as expert, and Dept Head Huta Raj Sharma, Project Work Coordinator Prof. Dr. AD Mishra, Dr. Tarun Kanta Jha and Sanat Kumar Shrestha as members.

Project Work Topics and Names of Students’ Group:

1)      Physio-Chemical Quality Assessment of River Water of Pokhara Valley (Bishwo Regmi, Kamal Prasad Dhungana, Subash Gautam and Sanju Acharya)

2)      Determination of Quality of Some Edible Oils available in Local Market of Pokhara Valley (Ajaya giri, Ganesh Regmi, Bhanu Bhakta Achrya, Nirmal Acharya and Bijaya B.K.)

3)      Study of Cleansing Action of Detergents Used in Pokhara Valley (Bidhya Karki, Shruti Adhikari, Susma KC, Jharana Budha Magar, and Sangita Poudel)

4)      Determination of Solubility Difference and Rate of Liquid flow (Sushila Thapa, Ishwor Poudel, Rajendra Adhikari and Devilal Parajuli)

Evaluation of Nutritional Value of Different Brands of Milk Available in Pokhara (Sita Aryal, Mamata Thapa, Maiya basnet, Puja Karki and Srijana Ghimire)
